Labeler - sound tags for the visually impaired

Evaluated by Jutta Miroiu-Dunker

Labeler was designed for visually impaired people. Labeler is - the easiest way to label or tag items around you. It is a very helpful app for generating and scanning / reading QR Codes and NFC Tags. The app requires no external resources. It is easy to use and most important: you can record your own voice / language.

  • Lables can be plain text or recorded audio (your owns speech)
  • Allows recording (and playback of the audio recording) your language
  • Created label list can be shared
  • Quite handy smartphone app for small amount of labels/tags
  • QR Code and NFC Tag writing/reading, but needs itself to read
  • Continuous scanning and instant reading/playback once scan function is opened
  • Good app for small scale home use
  • Stores labels locally
  • Reading QR Codes text (not audio) input in system default TTS language only
  • Other QR Code Readers would just read a number referring to the record of the lable,
  • Label list cannot easily created/modified on PC

QRTalk

Evaluated by Jutta Miroiu-Dunker

QRTalk is not a cod generator or scanner a such. It is an end-to-end message encryption system. So actually, it does not belong in the group of talking QR Codes, as the name might imply ...

I did not test the functionality.

  • Claims to have Encryption
  • Requires Server, no test possible

QRvox Voice Valet

Evaluated by Jutta Miroiu-Dunker

QRvox is the fee app to read codes generated by QRvox. But QRvox aalso reads any QR Code content, even urls and the like. The camera must be pointet quite exactly in order to read the code. After reading, parts of the code like URLs or numbers are displayed. Numers are not always read correctly, but they are displayed properly, From the display, you can open a link, call a number, etc..

  • Reads any text in QR Code
  • Keeps history of scanned codes and their contents
  • Allows actions like opening links or calling numbers found in the code
  • Reading QR Codes text content in system default TTS language
  • QR Codes would be read out as text (url, vcards, etc.)
  • Scan option must be clicked for each scan
  • Actually connected to the QRVox code generator company

Talking QR Reader (free)

Evaluated by Jutta Miroiu-Dunker

Talking QR Reader is not the tool of my choice. Even though you can select different languages proir to a scan, it is quite cumbersome.

  • -/-
  • Reading language must be selected before scanning
  • Slow processing time
